Marshchapel Arts Exhibition 2011
This year's event was the finest to date, benefitting from an extended range of styles in part provided by “new” artists from the further recesses of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. In all, 55 artists exhibited 214 items. Additionally this year we had a prestigious Light Installation by Martin Griffiths, the sculptor; the weather being poor at times, and the installation being outside, fewer people than might be wished were able to experience it, but those who did were duly intrigued. As ever, the hospitality marquee was popular; master chef Mike Grubb produced lunches to order, and various ladies from the village served a seemingly continuous stream of cakes and teas. A painting by Robin Storey from Beverley - “Robin Hood's Bay” - was voted the best work on display; a piece by Vic Hotson entitled 'The Winter Allotment' won the “Change and Decay” competition prize.
Postscript It was with great sadness that the organisers of the Exhibition learned just before the Preview evening of the death of Vic Hotson. Vic had exhibited at all four exhibitions to date, and he was a very good friend to Marshchapel Arts and St Mary's Church. His work was skilful and much appreciated, and he was a kind and gentle person. He will be sorely missed.
